If you are a student and are insured by any European social prevention institution, you have the European card for medical insurance. With this card you have the right to obtain medical treatment from the Italian medical system. In the Province of Pisa it is covered by the "Districts of the Local Health Unit No. 5 of Pisa".

You are covered with:

  • Free visits with a general practitioner, which you can find in the list below. You can also find the timetables by going to the website https://www.uslnordovest.toscana.it/ in "medical research".
  • Free visits with the home doctor (call your general practitioner between 8.00 and 10.00) or the '' medical service '' https://www.uslnordovest.toscana.it/ (from 20.00 to 8.00).
  • Gynecological or dental visits can be booked at the "Unique Booking Centers" https://www.uslnordovest.toscana.it/ the cost will be between 18 and 59 euros.
  • Any other specific tests must be requested from the medical authority by the general practitioner. Some of these services have to be paid for.
  • Access to the "Consultorio": just show up during opening hours.
  • Hospitalization must be evaluated by the general practitioner or the "Emergency Room".
  • The "certificate of fitness for non-competitive sporting practice" can be given by the general practitioner, and costs between 30 and 50 euros. It is usually requested at the CUS.
  • The "certificate of fitness for competitive practice" can be requested at the "Medicina dello Sport" General Medicine 2 University, building n * 8 ground floor Sports Medicine Clinic of the Santa Chiara Hospital in Pisa or at the Sports Medicine Clinic of the Local Health Authority 5 of Pisa in Mezzana (Cascina).

If you are a European student, but do not have a European card for medical insurance or you are a non-European student who is insured by a private company, you can get the same medical treatments, but they will be paid for. You can get a refund from your insurance by keeping the invoice.
