The European Union was established in 1993, but finds its origins and its evolution during the twentieth century; one of the key moments took place on the 9th of May 1950, day of the Schuman Declaration: in this document he suggested the prototype of the first idea of a truly European collaborative institution.
On this particular day, every year, several EU institutions allow citizens to visit the places where such crucial decisions are made. Moreover, commemorative events are celebrated all around Europe carrying on the “Peace and unity” theme that characterises this special day.
A lot of groups and organisations bloomed inside Europe and ESN is one of those: “Unity in diversity” is a motto that our association takes and makes its own, as the “Students helping students” goes beyond any kind of barrier.
We owe a lot to Europe and that’s why we’re celebrating this great institution with “EUROPE DAY (AND BEYOND) - 5 minutes to make us fall in love with your Nation”, an event in which students will present themselves and represent their own country of origin.
Anyone could take the stage for 5 minutes and will have the chance to tell something special, something unique about their Nation, or just share a fun fact with us, other international students and representatives from the University of Pisa (you can get a glimpse of our speakers in the gallery below).
You can join us as a listener or take the microphone and try to win a mysterious prize, but don’t be shy, no one is going to lose!
We will then have dinner altogether, kindly offered by the University of Pisa.
We really hope that this could be a moment of celebration not only of the European Union and the chances it has given and gives us everyday, but mostly of the multicultural environment we are so lucky to call our own.
